CommentaryAmnesty Battle Won: Immigration War Could Still Be Lost!by Xelan Bonn WASHINGTON D.C. - JULY 1, 2007 Grassroots organizers and their followings gained a critical temporary win against "amnesty." the problem is that the proponents of amnesty are backed by pro North American Union (NAU) advocates who have more power and deeper pockets than few can imagine! They will be back looking for open borders and amnesty as part of their plan to lay the foundation for the NAU--you can count on it! Those who helped prevent amnesty from moving forward should be applauded. We take our hat off to organizers around the country but offer this severe warning--the battle was won but the war's not over! As part of the PUA's strategy to regain control of US borders and security, an innovative approach came to the forefront that seemed to answer the question, "what do we don with the 12 million illegal aliens already here?" A bill initiative was written long before the anti-amnesty win was logged as part of an overall strategy to take the issue on the offensive. It was not written in stone and will be hammered and changed, but the key value to it is that: 1) it’s formal and available to everyone, 2) it's already circulating in some conversations within the House, 3) it meshes well with a “security only bill” (as it was designed to only address the “illegal” form of immigration), 4) it's concepts are supported by the majority of Americans, 5) and it's cost effective and humane. Knows as the Bonn Temporary Amnesty Initiative (BTAI), the key aspects are that it’s simple to understand: 1) enforce current laws, 2) secure borders within 90 days, 3) free up law enforcement personnel and resources so it can focus on finding potential terrorist by quickly removing illegal aliens from US soil who are impacting current systems. It took over 2 years to get people to understand enough to act against the highly flawed and anti-Constitutional “amnesty” bill. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to take years to cement it. Today, hundreds of potential solutions and ideas are emerging and struggling for dominance. However, grassroots organizers do have time to hash out one from the other while pro amnesty opponents begin to rally and form new strategies. Waiting for the 2008 elections is a bad strategy for the anti-illegal immigration crowd for several reasons. One, it will give too much tome to opponents to rally and redouble their efforts. Two, the political tides could change for the worst (although that seems hard to imagine). Three, and most significantly, the forward momentum of the grassroots campaigners will be lost and much of the underlying support with it as time passes. The best strategy is to maintain momentum and coalitions in the grassroots camps and to attack on two levels: 1) push the House toward a formal security only bill and get it passed and enacted by Jan. 2008, 2) push the White House for enforcement of current laws. The key aspects of the new bill should be to focus on border, port, and domestic security. The very best bill would ensure that all illegal aliens were out of the country by Jan 2009, before the new president takes office and can try to declare amnesty again. Organizers should remember one thing. This issue among the "pro-amnesty backers" is not just about immigration, it is about ensuring open borders to lay the foundation for the NAU and the groups that support the NAU are super wealthy and super powerful---they are not going away on this subject simply because they suffered a minor defeat---no way in hell! Grassroots organizers have the upper hand if they act fast, and if they back initiatives like the Bonn Temporary Amnesty Initiative that is already circulating in the House. However, if they go the other way and lose their focus and objectives---which are the securing of our borders and ports, illegal aliens out, reduced legal immigration in, and higher security from terrorism---they could could turn this into a final victory! Until then, the war will rage! |
