Patriot Union of America Moderate Xelan Bonn Tunes In On Bush's Impeachment

WASHINGTON, D.C. - June 10, 2008

Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio read formal charges against President Bush on the House floor Monday and introduced a 35-count resolution to impeach President Bush for dramatic Constitutional breeches (see partial list of those breeches)

We asked PUA Founder Xelan Bonn to give us his view on this development.

JS: Should President Bush be impeached?

XB: Absolutely. It is the only way to clean up the incredible mess that President Bush has made of the White House and Constitution and to show the American people that our checks and balances system is still working. We need to support faith in government and sometimes, in order to achieve that, we need to rip off the bandages and clean the wounds - or they will only grow worse and fester.

JS: What happens if the impeachment is stalled or blocked?

XB: We Americans should be keeping careful track of who blocks this process and we should target them for removal from office on their election anniversaries. Any leader, who hears or reads the full 35 count charge against the president, and wants to let it stand and be forgotten is being complicit and subversive to the United States of America and the Constitution. We have seen far too much covering over of the president's highly illegal actions and the Congress's failure to act toward stopping them.

President Bush's term is nearly over so politics should not come into play - we will have elected a new leader by the time Bush is tried and a full determination is made. The reason we need to do this has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with preserving and protecting the Constitution and our government.

JS: Other than standing up for the Constitution, why else do you support this impeachment?

XB: Easy, President Bush has nearly the same powers as Adolf Hitler did just before the US got into WWII. The US, if we let this stand, is no longer technically a democracy but a dictatorship disguised as a democracy. Few Americans know the length and breath of the combined new powers that President Bush usurped for the Office of President and what they could ultimately mean for Americans. For example, any future president (and Bush) will have the right to call out the military at any time and use it to police Americans on their own soil. Hitler did this to help ensure ironhanded control over his citizens - absolute power corrupts absolutely.

JS: What if Nancy Pelosi blocks the Democrats from pushing the impeachment and remedying these wrongs?

XB: It will be a sad day for America and the Constitution and the Democrats will go down in history as the party that handed over all power to the Executive Branch without a fight. The Democrats would be smart to find a new House Majority Leader and Pelosi's constituents need to look for another candidate who is patriotic rather than complicit with the take down of America.   

JS: Many mainstream news stories are trying to talk down the impeachment as if frivolous. What do you make of that?

XB: Very few news stories list the 35 counts, which are shocking but not unexpected. The only thing covered in most stories is usually about the Iraq war and Bush'es cover-up - all by itself enough to convict him. However, the other counts, like spying on Americans, election fraud and tampering, the rewriting of the Posse Comitatas Act and other high crimes need to be aired to the public fully so they can get a clear sense that this is a very serious matter that should not be treated like some Britney Spears episode in the news. 

I find it just amazing how the mainstream news media and even much of the Net media, instead of letting events unfold, immediately began downplaying them - as if all 35 counts were meaningless. This is very serious stuff and impeachment should have taken place years earlier, in my opinion.

Our nation is very ill, and how we handle this will show whether we have a chance to recover or not. I think it will likely get swept under the rug along with all of Washington's ethics and concern for our Constitution, and when that happens, I think the America people should clean house - demand new leaders - never vote in another incumbent until everyone in the seats of power has previously signed an oath to clean up government and restore the Constitution. 

America simply cannot afford to allow President Bush's fascist ideas and changes to our Constitution and government stand!
