Time To Take Laws Off Books And Put Respect Back

PUA Staff

February 10, 2007

Today is seems everything has become illegal. We have regulated ourselves to the point of "no freedom!"

The body of law has become so complex and unwieldy that lawyers need other lawyers who specialize---we have millions of laws on the books and most lawyers know only a few thousand of them---most citizens know only a couple hundred of them.

We are a society of meddling-do-gooders doing nothing more than regulating ourselves into fascism--destroying the very freedoms we once prided ourselves and our country on! When will the madness stop!

Try this Congress, legislatures, assemblies, governors, lawmakers, citizens, etc...

Why not work at removing as many out-dated laws from the books as possible and consolidating other laws? Why not work toward more freedoms, not less

Why not make a law that all laws must first be reviewed by a Constitutional Law Committee and if approved, may be released to potentially become law, and if not released, may never become law? Would that save taxpayers a lot of money and grief from lawsuits and legal challenges or is that too much common sense?

How about this novel idea Congress... let's keep you out of state law making altogether---no longer do you get to withhold federal funds if states will not bend to your will? Let's allow states to determine their own fate and their own laws (within Constitutionality) and keep federal law makers focused on truly federal issues.

How about this Congress and the President... if you can not solve federal issues (like emergency preparedness, border security, free trade's undermining of America's middle class, terrorism, please do not impose your laws and wills on the states in areas outside of your traditional control!

States! Why not try freedom for a change. Remove every law on the books that do not make sense or impinges on personal freedom? For example, if a helmet law saves lives for motorcycle riders, so what---why not just make it a law that every motorcycle rider must first be made of aware of this important safety fact and then allow them to make up their own mind whether they wish to wear a helmet or not? Must we impose our will on everyone? Whatever happened to personal choice and freedom?

Individual choice is what America is about---educate, don't dictate.

Cities! Why not stop the madness of over-regulating? Why not a street vender car here or there? Why not a tobacco smoker walking down the street (if cars can smoke, why not people?) Instead of trying to stop littering by making meaningless codes, why not simply make money off the violators---outsource enforcement for petty infractions and put some money into city coffers (i.e toss a cigarette butt and you pay $49 fine pal!). What happened to common sense?

The bottom line is we need less laws and more education and respect in our culture. Why spend millions making a laws that few people will ever know about until they break it and get caught? Why not spend the same money educating the public on "good neighbor practices" instead of using the old "stick" mentality---education programs and public relations campaigns have proven to be much more effective in curbing bad behavior than laws, codes, and over-regulation combined!

Let's step into the 21st Century for a change!

Let's step into the future!
