PUA Position Statement

Note: Currently, Position Statements have been drafted by the PUA Staff as an initial starting point. However, in the future, PUA Position Statements will be created with the direct input of the majority of PUA Card Carrying Members (public voters) and it will reflect the majority opinion. Therefore, your input as a PUA Member can change, often dramatically, the PUA Position Statements in the near and distant future so if you do not see your ideal opinion reflected here, remember, you can work to change it--the PUA is ruled by majority vote.

We support that all human life is precious and sacred and that the larger culture and community of human beings should be to foster the protection of life and to ensure that populations, whether at the village level or world level, are maintained within acceptable balances to nature, the environment, and its resources, that all may offer to the other a symbiotic and nurturing relationship to the other. We believe that cultures should embrace life and seek to find ways to protect and value it so that issues to the contrary are rarely raised or applied in society by desire of the individual and culture collective.

We also support that human liberty is precious and sacred.

It is our firm belief that the state does not own the individual, that the core and overriding value is that all Americans are equal and born to freedom.

We refuse to concede that humans are the property of government, although many government and religious leaders approach the rule of law and policy this way, which is anti-American by nature in its suggestive constrictions on personal liberty.

We do not subscribe to the premise that one religious group should hold sway over all Americans and their personal rights or liberties. For example, we do not subscribe to Islam having the right to Jihad on Americans or to create a religiously controlled state and to enforce that belief onto people of the world against their will or through deceit or hate based ideology, yet we respect the moral teachings of Islam and all religions when they do not preach hate or death. The same goes for Christianity and its "pro-life" views that dictate that the collective freedom of society must be lessened in order to promote their beliefs and restrictions on the individual--we respect all religions until they force themselves onto the individual or collective freedom of America and its citizens and their right to exercise both free will and free exercise of religion. We respect religious tolerance from all groups and disdain religious intolerance and its disrespect for others.

There is a notion that being pro-life means that you have to give up your choices as an individual to the state. Not all religions and cultures view abortion as a negative aspect of life or as a moral or legal crime but often believe it is a necessary choice for humans struggling to cope with the pressures of civilization, overpopulation, family life, and other aspects of modern life. In some religions, abortion can be considered a preferred choice, depending on the specific circumstances of the case for the women involved. In other cultures, it can be considered cruel to allow a newborn to live a deformed life incapable of self-sufficiency or good health.

For example, in some Tibetan villages women will submerge their newborn babies into the freezing river and then pull them out and try to revive them--believing that only those babies that can survive such an ordeal are fit for the harsh life of the environment they are to grow up in. It is a cultural belief that has been generated over ions and one that actually highly values life by understanding the basic survival patterns of the genetic form and its need to ever evolve into stronger and more capable forms that better cope with their environments. To the Westerner, such an approach to nature, environment, and infants is atrocious, but not to the Tibetan who feel they value life more than the Westerner, not less.

While our views of life across cultures and the planet may differ widely, our views of government are what bring Americans together. Americans respect personal freedoms and nongovernmental inference. Americans respect that no single religion shall rule their government or laws. Americans respect that life is sacred, but that the state has no claim over the individual and one's liberties.

Abortion is an ugly issue but not one whereby we can advocate women being forced back into a dark US history that once made women seek horrifying alleys and ghoulish backrooms because abortions were prohibited by the state--we know from history that no matter the law, women will do as they feel they must in this regard--and we feel that the life, health, and preservation of the women must come first and foremost--that women (or man) is the landlord of their own body--not the state.

Any overturning of the landmark Roe vs. Wade  would merely commit many of America's women to death and damnation by backrooms charlatans rather than give them choice or safety that they need from sound medical practitioners in an open and caring society.

We believe that pro-life should be the default choice for those who become pregnant, but not the absolute and only choice for women.

We also believe that churches and religions should not focus on the law of the land but on educating and encouraging those faced with tough decisions to make pro-life decisions---that the goal should be to create a social and cultural atmosphere (not a legal one) whereby pro-life is the most common elective choice in our society. And that in order to avoid such traumatic decisions, a sound bases of birth control should be taught and equally practiced so that such issues might be avoid altogether. Procreation should be, as may be possible, a planned event.

We live in a world now where overpopulation is overstressing our environments and creating unsustainable models for human life. In just two or three generations, scientist inform us that our planet will be unable to sustain its current human population. And yet the population is growing in leaps in bounds, hence accelerating our own demise as a species and that of other species.

Famine, disease, polluted water, and other factors will push us toward self-extinction unless we begin to educate the masses and move toward de-population and a culture and religious view that embraces this reality and takes steps to counter it destructive progress. While we value human life, we cannot value overpopulation, for it too has its dangers. Therefore, finding sensible balance is key.

The issue of controlling if or when pregnancy should occur should be encouraged through a strong educational process for all women on the planet toward a desire that the issue of abortion should never have to arise. However, until then, the issue of abortion must remain between a woman and her family and doctor as a deeply personal decision based in an atmosphere of liberty. The issue of deciding can be aided, not by the state, but by caring citizens and their religious leaders who seek to enlighten and encourage pro-life attitudes and culture in society so that someday, although every woman has the right to abortion, few may chose or need the option. Planned pregnancy, parenthood, and populations are key to the balance of not only the humane spirit and its need for liberty, but to our survival as an Earth species.

The PAU respects the individual's right to chose and the right to not be discriminated against by government and others who might be inclined to show favor to one religion and not another. Neutrality  must be the government's position and choice in this matter.
