PUA Position Statement

Second Amendment

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Historical Context

In the historical context, the word "state" here clearly refers to the nation state comprised of the collective individual, and yet has often been misinterpreted as referring to individual states or state's rights. An inordinate amount of time was spent in the drafting of this amendment which sought to preserve individual rights against a would be tyrannical government or standing army, so as not to allow individual collective to be enslaved by unscrupulous leaders. It was the primary thought that no government, such as those in Europe, even with a standing army, could hope to overthrow and tyrannize its own people if those people were well armed - for the whole of the land would be too overpowering for even the largest of armies.

A detailed study of the drafting of this Constitutional Article shows the founders were largely concerned with two realities: 1) protection of the country from foreign invasion and national defense, 2) protection of the people from tyrannical rule within their own government or standing armies.

The latter aspect is clearly obfuscated and ignored by today's extremist liberal media (mainstream media) and most journalist who often have their own political agenda that seeks to overturn our Constitutional safeguards rather than uphold them in the light of historical realities.

It has somehow become "politically incorrect" to think that our own government could be usurped from within by tyrannical rulers, yet this clearly what the S3econd Amendment has protected us from all these many decades. The threat of internal tyranny sprouting on an unarmed people was something that Thomas Jefferson and others constantly warned against, knowing full well the trappings of both power and politics and their abilities to corrupt any system, Republic or otherwise. Jefferson saw the people and their need to stand as one and be vigilant to forces of tyranny within their homeland as a necessary check and balance within our system of government and in protection of liberty.

Jefferson went on to claim it was the duty of every American to be vigilant against internal tyrannies and to attack and overthrow them routinely should they begin to rise up within the halls of our government - that the government was servant to We The People and the will of the majority and that all pains to maintain that reality were to be freely administered by the people. Jefferson lamented on how history had shown that tyranny rose to power much more easily when the people were unarmed and unable to effectively battle it and that all ruling powers always first sought to disarm those they would then conquer.

Today's Potential For

Given today's current Congress and its dismally low public rating, one might argue that some form of tyranny may be taking hold in our own halls of government. In all cases, Americans should recall Jefferson's warnings and take heed of admonitions for all Americans to safeguard their Right to bear arms as part of their collective vigilance against homeland tyranny and our checks and balance system of government. Should the government attempt to disarm the public, this would be the signal that tyranny was being exercised and the people should then exercise their right and overthrow such corruption and tyranny and reset their government right.

Today's Self Defense Aspects

The Second Amendment has many positive outcroppings that were not originally voiced in their debates, as many were simply taken for granted, such as the need for self-defense.

The reality is, each year over one million American citizen lives are safeguarded by the application of privately owned guns, which are used in self-defense or in defense of others. Among the largest gun advocate groups are women and police officers who routinely tell their fellow American that the police can not be everywhere all the time, and that having a means of self-protection is highly prudent, especially for women who are often victimized by larger and stronger men unless they are armed with "equalizers". It nearly 99% of all cases where guns are used in self-defense or defense of others, the gun is not discharged - the mere threat of a victim being able to fight back often stops the crime from fully taking place.

Each year, nearly twice as many people in the US are killed by car accidents than by guns. Each year, more children die in bathtubs because of parental neglect than by guns in the home. In every case of a public shooting, privately owned guns for self-protection have been absent from the scene of the incident; hence many massacres that take place due to troubled youths or mentally unstable individuals may have been abated had some individuals been armed with self-defense weapons and we able to come to the aid of their fellow citizens.

Today's Historical

In every society where guns have been outlawed (i.e. England, Australia, etc.), crime has escalated over 300% - criminals are less fearful when they know their prey is likely to be unarmed. In countries like Mexico where privately owned guns are essentially illegal, crimes by guns are common place. Why? Simply because although guns may be outlawed for law abiding citizens, criminals can always get their hands on guns (and law breaking is never an issue for anyone who makes their living as a criminal).

In the US, each year, thousands of criminals are caught illegally carrying guns (many guns in and of themselves being illegal for anyone to carry) so the reality is that no amount of gun control works. Criminals are not concerned with laws, only law abiding citizens--the vast majority of us, thankfully.

In the US, according to statistics by the National Rifle Association, individuals who carry self-defense guns are much less likely to be criminals or law violators than is anyone in the general society as a whole. Apparently, a higher level of respect for the law comes with the responsibility of gun ownership and possession by the individual who carries guns than by those who avoid their Rights altogether.

Terrorism And Drug Mafias

With terrorism and attacks on US soil preparing to be escalated by al Qaeda and others, we are about to enter a phase in American history where private gun ownership could mean the difference between life and death for many Americans who now find themselves facing an enemy on their own soil.

Along with the growing trend of domestic terrorism, the swelling of violent crime being perpetrated by Mexican drug mafias or human trafficking mafias is now ill affecting many citizens and their families.

Today, more than ever, private gun ownership rights have never been more badly needed, and they will continue to be a vital aspect of home, family, and private individual security for decades to come.

Background

Around The World - Proven Not To Work!

It is very important for citizens to realize that the policing agencies in the US are reactionary; that is, they do not get involved typically until after a crime has been committed. Police cannot be everywhere where crimes occur at the time they occur (and rarely are), which leaves self defense and proactive family protection planning, systems, and tools the only true preventive measure.

In the US, more people are killed by malfunctioning household appliances than guns. Reckless and drunk driving violators kill twice as many people than guns every year (as do many other things in society, like sleepy drivers) so why are people up in arms about arms?

Perhaps it's politics instead of facts and common sense?

Do guns save lives?

Did you know that over 1 million people each year use guns for self-defense from criminals---that's over 1 million less victims. Many are women. Nearly all occur with the firing of s single shot.

Meanwhile less than 9,000 murders and accidents come from guns annually (see crime clock).

Countries that have gun control laws (where private gun ownership prohibited) have some of the highest crime-rates in the world involving guns, such as Mexico and Columbia.

Countries like Australia and others that have instituted gun control laws and tried to remove guns from their society quickly realized double and even triple increases in the level of violent crime, as citizens were left defenseless and only the criminals kept guns. These societies regret their decisions to rid guns from law abiding people.

Over 100 million US citizens own guns as a Constitutional Right.

America's Forefathers tried to make the First Amendment the "Right to Bear Arms," but argued over the wording so it became the Second Amendment---such was the concept's importance for the protection of US citizens.

Our Forefathers wanted to ensure that America's citizens had the ability to fight their own government should it prove tyrannical (like Britain had)---knowing that a defenseless people were much easier to control and bend to dictatorial, tyrannical rule and will---such did they love, value, and seek to protect Freedom and Liberty. They also saw private gun ownership as the best way to thwart a foreign enemy, as a militia of the citizenry could be formed to avert foreign aggressions and was much easier and cost effective than maintaining a large standing army. Gun ownership was also taken for granted a person's right to self defense and in the feeding (hunting) of one's family.

Our Founding Fathers could see into future perhaps because during World War II, Japan refused to invade the US simply because they feared all Americans who were known around the world to carry and bear firearms---the fight would be too costly, they felt! A foreign invasion was thusly avoided.

It is also noted that some children are harmed by guns every year, but they are also harmed by mother's who fail to seat belt their children in cars, by bathtub with too much water, by following balls into the street, and thousands of other things that we just can't outlaw either for common sense reasons. In fact, guns are statistically one of the lowest causes of children harm in the US---most child deaths are simply the result of parental negligence (as in the items noted above---more children die every year from bathtub water than guns).

Education and training would do and has done much more to control child death by guns and other things than any laws have or will and the PUA supports a strong education approach.

However, when all aspects are studies in the cold light of facts, the reality is that there are many more sound and common sense reasons for Americans to keep their guns and the Second Amendment intact than there ever will be against it.

With terrorist coming to our shores and soon to be wrecking havoc on America, and other factors equal causes for alarm, there is more reason than ever for Americans to arm themselves and stay prepared to defend their families in the coming times.
