PUA Position StatementNote: Currently, Position Statements have been drafted by the PUA Staff as an initial starting point. However, in the future, PUA Position Statements will be created with the direct input of the majority of PUA Card Carrying Members (public voters) and it will reflect the majority opinion. Therefore, your input as a PUA Member can change, often dramatically, the PUA Position Statements in the near and distant future so if you do not see your ideal opinion reflected here, remember, you can work to change it--the PUA is ruled by majority vote. Statement not formulated yet. Briefly: The PUA believes in a livable wage for adults who are not attending high school or college or receiving government subsistence. The USA has become complex and each region now has its own "cost-of-living" factor, which we believe should be factored into livable wage rates across the nation and in all statistics. We do not believe that America needs to bastardize itself by allowing illegal labor to be used in order to lower the cost to businesses; that such approaches stand against all gains made by past labor movements. As employers have shown a great willingness to abuse the employee and strip them of their livable wages and other resources and rights, we believe that Americans should begin working toward the major reintroduction of labor unions in mass across the US until European levels are reached (about 65-80% of all jobs) so that employers will more likely support livable wages, sound benefits, ensure better retirement packages, and fairer treatment for employees. The US economy can fully function without major trade by simply looking to itself for sustenance rather than seeking a world free trade platform that ensures US citizen workers must compete with foreign workers who work for pennies on the dollar and live in Third World countries as a result---that the US worker should never be brought down such an economic disparity level again. Instituting fair trade practices will ensure this, which will in turn help ensure a strong minimum wage and higher or rising standard of living for all Americans (rather than one that continues to lower itself, as the current model is economic ensuring).
