PUA Position Statement

Note: Currently, Position Statements have been drafted by the PUA Staff as an initial starting point. However, in the future, PUA Position Statements will be created with the direct input of the majority of PUA Card Carrying Members (public voters) and it will reflect the majority opinion. Therefore, your input as a PUA Member can change, often dramatically, the PUA Position Statements in the near and distant future so if you do not see your ideal opinion reflected here, remember, you can work to change it--the PUA is ruled by majority vote.

Briefly: Overpopulation affects everything, from infrastructure to school systems and education, to environment, to roadways, to higher potentials for Pandemics, to pollution and global warming, to food resources and water, to power generation and consumption, to the need for more jobs, and more!

Overpopulation comes at a cost! Nearly all of the detriments to the US education system have come due to out-of-control illegal and legal immigration. Schools and education consume the most tax dollars so by looking at this one element, a lot more can be learned across the board for other negative impacts due to overpopulation.

In some cities struggling to raise their tax bases, they see their citizens leaving in droves to find work, so they naturally gravitate toward wanting greater numbers of people coming to the US in hopes that some will settle in their towns. This kind of thinking is highly flawed, for immigration, even within a state or the US alone, occurs naturally as a result of job opportunities. Too many low paying jobs or not enough and people move out. Lots of high paying jobs and higher quality of life, and people move in. It's that simple. All runaway immigration achieves is to shove more people into tighter and tighter spaces where the jobs are available, which lowers everyone standard of living in the area from overcrowding.

Currently the US is running about 140% in overpopulation or about 40% beyond optimal capacity for its over-all infrastructure, which is putting untold stress on cities, states, and the federal government. The best possible scenario would be to place a long-term moratorium on immigration toward readjusting the scale--in other words, to allow the infrastructure to slowly catch back up to the current population levels.
