Bush Impeachment Finally Starts: Should Pelosi Be Impeached Too?

by Jack Smyth [See Xelan Bonn interview on impeachment]

WASHINGTON, D.C. - June 9, 2008

Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, politely spared with reluctant Speaker Nancy Pelosi in order to get formal charges against President Bush read on the House floor Monday evening.

Kucinich introduced a 35-count resolution to impeach President Bush for dramatic Constitutional breeches including:

  1. His use of "disappearing" hundreds or even thousands of persons who were suspected of having ties to terrorism, including US and Canadian citizens that were later released and have testified to being brutally tortured by the US.
  2. His unauthorized rewriting of the Posse Comitatas Act, which now gives the military the right to police US civilians.
  3. His slew of illegal acts to hinder 9-11 panel investigations.
  4. His direct acts of election tampering that aided in his election to the second term of office.
  5. His multiple violations of Blacks' civil rights.
  6. His deliberate misrepresentation of the facts leading to the Iraq war and the subsequent deaths of thousands of US service personnel, and those wounded.
  7. His egregious acts blocking federal investigations and interfering with the offices and acts of federal attorneys.
  8. His deliberate failure to release critical environmental science studies regarding pollutants, such a carbon emissions.
  9. His widespread abuse of federal law and illegal wiretapping and searches.
  10. His abuse regarding the illegal surveillance of US officials and members of the Democratic party via the National Security Administration and satellite tracking and other systems.
  11. His abuse in CIA/NSA spying on US citizens on US soil.
  12. His failure to convene Cabinet level meetings regarding an August warning memo (and high level pleas by staff) that al Qaeda was planning to attack the World Trade Center buildings (his general dereliction of duty over the course of events leading to the 9-11 attacks, which, if sound, would have likely avoided the tragedy).
  13. And more.

Kucinich's account even named names of officials and those violated as potential upcoming witness in what may prove to be the trial of the century (if ever pushed forward).

He said Bush "fraudulently" justified the war, and misled the American people and... Congress to believe Iraq had weapons of mass destruction in his false manufacture of a  case for war."

"President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," he said. And he said it 35 times!

Kucinich was congratulated  for his "historic leadership" from Bob Fertik, president of Democrats.Com, a group pushing for impeachment

"We've waited seven years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died," Fertik said. "We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot."

Nancy Pelosi's is also expected to block this attempt by Kucinich but a backlash rumble is starting to mumble that impeachment proceedings should also be added for Pelosi who is increasingly being seen as a complicit conspirator for her failure to support the upholding of the Constitution, as well as her unwillingness to demonstrate good government by displaying its proper checks and balances.

Pelosi has stated on many occasions that impeachment of Bush was "off the table."

She might have gotten away with dismissing one or two counts,  but 35 counts, some extremely egregious, will not be gotten away with without proper hearings - her attempts to sweep this under the rug will only inflame a citizenry that already has too little faith in government and Congress.

C-Span covered the historic Articles of Impeachment reading against President Bush.
