News ReleaseFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nov 7, 2006PUA Announces Plans For New Online Voting System Patriot Union of America (PUA), a citizen’s advocacy seeking to build the nation’s largest nonpartisan union of US citizen voters and pioneer to the national referendum system, announced plans to build an encrypted online voting system for use in creating new federal laws.
Known as the Public Initiative Bill (PIB) system, Americans will soon be able to participate in national referendums using the latest Internet technology. The planned million dollar online system known as the Public Initiative Bill Online Voting System or PIBOVS is expected to be operational by the summer of 2008, just in time for the national elections. "This could revolutionize democracy in America," said Mark Adams, Senior IT Manger for the PUA. Soon any US Citizen voter as a PUA member will be able to access the PIBOV system and vote on ideas, issues, and federal legislation toward formal law making, say organizers. The concept is to give Americans another legislative choice when Congress and the President are not willing to get the job done, said organizers. How does PIBOVS work? The voter simply goes to the PIBOVS page in the encrypted section of the Patriot Union of America Web site (when it becomes operational) and uses their PUA log-on information to access the system. Once inside PIBOVS, the member will simply review the issues and pro and con statements and answer a few short surveys by checking the appropriate boxes. Encrypted Internet software takes cares of the rest. Results are transmitted, tabulated, and used by the PUA to eventually formulate actual bills in legalese that can be submitted to the Congress with the full support and backing of the PUA. "PIBOVS will be the backbone system for PUA members when working on national referendum issues," said Adams. "Think user friendly, fast, and even fun and you've got a good picture where we're headed with this," he said. "We want people to be able to spend as little as 5 minutes, once per month, to participate in creating new laws to make America better for our future," he said. After a significant beta testing period, the entire PIB system will then be upgraded to a direct national referendum system, in which Americans bypass Congress and the President and go directly to law making approval with majority vote approval, say organizers. The system is not designed to replace Congress, but will help keep them honest and give Americans a way to break deadlocks and get things done once in while, said Adams. "Right now, Americans don't have any way to override or control Congress when they go against popular or majority sentiments and the PIB system using PIVOVS will give them a much needed new outlet," said Adams. "It won't be perfect but it's better than what we have right now---which is no choice." To learn more www.patriotunion.org. [More on POBOVS and Donate Here] --30-- |
