Congress Doesn't Care If Amnesty Bankrupts US Economy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 1, 2007

Forget every aspect you have ever debated about illegal immigration and amnesty schemes - instead, look at the money! Anyone armed with a few facts and $3 calculator can discover a mind-shocking reality and see the fiscal irresponsibly or perhaps even treachery of Congress.

Examine the Heritage Foundation’s report projecting $2.6 trillion in entitlement costs for giving amnesty to 10 million illegal immigrants,[1] then assume there are actually 20 million (as projected by many competent researchers) for an adjusted potential impact of $5.2 trillion (over 30 years).

Next, realize that current laws will allow amnestied foreigners to bring their impoverished family members to the US in quickstep fashion. The Heritage Foundation has projected an influx of an additional 4 persons for each person amnestied (80 million). Using their original per-person estimates, add another $20.8 trillion for a total impact of $26 trillion (about .87 trillion annually, not including interest payments).

However, those would not be all the cost or other impacts US taxpayers suffer as a result of an amnesty.

We need to calculate the cost for impacts that are not covered in the Heritage study, like law enforcement impacts, prison housing, interim emergency healthcare, education, population growth, environmental impacts to natural resources like water, old-growth lumber, pollution, etc.. Woops! The Government Accounting Office has not ran those facts, figures, and impacts - why? Simply because our Congress refuses to investigate these costs. How do we know they refused—because last month the Patriot Union of America (PUA), a nonpartisan citizen’s advocacy group, notified each member of Congress of these shocking forecasts and specifically requested an impartial GAO study to either confirm or adjust the potential impacts forecasted. To date, Congress refuses to order a comprehensive study!

Absent GAO investigative reports, we can still get a rough idea of these other cost that would be forced on taxpayers with a wide sweeping amnesty. Using calculations from a recent PUA article entitled “Could Amnesty Bankrupt America,” we find an additional total potential cost impact of $10.18 trillion to cover those costs not addressed in the Heritage study. The adjusted 30-year total becomes $36.18 trillion, or well over $1 trillion per year (before adding in the costs of interest payments, adjusting for population explosions, environmental impacts, etc).[2]

Let’s see how this could effect the national debt and economy.

If our national debt ticked up an average of $1 trillion per year, (assuming there are no new debt impacts), then in just one decade we will have doubled our entire national debt to pay for amnesty!  Where will that money come from? (Hint, our children’s children’s children, whether Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, or other…).

China currently holds about $1.3 trillion in US currency and debt and has threatened to dump it and collapse the dollar if we quit buying their products. Wall Street market analyst and the Fed have warned us that the dollar would devalue by about 12% if dumping occurred, which would likely result in a major US recession. Meanwhile, our Mid-East wars are being paid for on borrowed funds, costing us roughly the amount that China holds. Where will the next $10 trillion over 10 years for an amnesty come from and how much more power will we place in the hands of foreign countries who extend us credit. What if that new $10 trillion in debt were dumped on world financial markets – what then happens to the dollar when it devalues 120% and becomes as worthless as the pre-WWII German currency? Do we really intended to give our country or sovereignty away to foreigners, whether they are on our soil illegally or via international monetary markets or trade markets or via political demands! Where is the pay-off to Americans for such a high stakes gamble?

In a 250 page report prepared by the Patriot Society entitled Operation Safe America, a compendium of facts are outlined dictating that the current illegal immigration crisis, after all contributions by illegal immigrants are calculated, is costing taxpayers well over $200 billion annually (over $1 trillion for every 5 years the debacle continues).[3] When so much of America’s infrastructure is suffering from decay, its schools failing, its healthcare abandoning over half of its citizens, and so many other societal ills due to lack of funding dollars, where is the pay-off to the US taxpayer for allowing this debacle to continue? When will Congress start protecting the American people, their treasure, and their future? 

Article IV Section 4 of the US Constitution states: 

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion . . .

When will the federal government do its Constitutional duty and protect the states and their citizens from this Invasion - given the fact that every day, a group larger than Santa Ana’s army illegally breaches our southern border in direct violation of the Treaty of Guadalupe? When will the states press their rights of protection or secession under the Articles of Confederation, which also gives them the authority to withhold all federal taxes? 

When will Americans care about their children’s future and fight for their rights—for no government on Earth can withstand the power of a whole nation standing as one and demanding a fix or else!

What Can You Do As An American To Stop The Internal Destruction Of Your Own Country? 

1.       Invest the cost of a movie ticket ($12) and help support the Patriot Union of America (www.patriotunion.org) so they can continue bringing you the tools and information you need to keep your government honest.

2.       Write Congress monthly: One letter sent to your House of Representative member, and two copies sent to your state's two Senators. Let them know you mean business!

3.       Support the Bonn Temporary Amnesty Initiative (BTAI - www.patriotunion.org/reform.htm), which is the only initiative that permanently ends illegal immigration and secures our borders within 16 months of enactment and stops all possibility of any further “amnesty” schemes that could bankrupt the US economy.

4.       Get involved with time, donations, volunteer efforts, passing the word (fax & e-mail letters, word of mouth, Web sites), marching on the courthouse, boycotting, rallying, educating others, joining and supporting multiple grassroots organizations, submitting editorial articles, spreading the word on the Net, and much more.
